If you have devices with the free lock down version already installed. Can you move the move them over to the paid remote management without having to reinstall the software or actually touch the devices
we have some tablets running the kiosk browser but they don't have an internet connection.
Is it possible to use the remote management for the tablets without an internet connection?
If not can I use the REST API with my own client in a local network?
In the admin interface there's an indication saying how long ago the device was last seen. I'm guessing this is based on a heartbeat the client sends to your servers. However, I've had multiple cases where this doesn't really give the full story.
My devices are all too often placed where connectivity is mediocre, and while the device might be able to shoot off a heartbeat, but consistently fails to load the kiosk url. In itself this is bad, but what's even worse is that it causes a discrepancy between what I see and what my customer sees. And considering that I want my customer to be happy I'd really like for me to have access to more information so I can give input when they need to move the device to improve connectivity.
My proposal to achieve this is to add two things:
- A "Last successful page load X minutes ago", just beneath the "Last seen X minutes ago"
- Add a possible alert for when the successful page load age is more than Y
Note: It doesn't have to be the actual kiosk url that is measured. That's just the starting point for some apps. Instead just use the successful load of ANY webpage.
Note 2: I do realize that this needs to be synced somehow with the ability to reload every Z minutes. I haven't thought much about it though. I might come up with some thoughts on it, if needed.
One of our devices lost power so eventually it ran out of battery and that correctly showed in the RMM. The client fixed the power supply and has confirmed it is running (and has been for two days) without issue. However the device hasn't updated on the RMM? It is running kioskbrowser correctly and it has been rebooted three times but the device status won't update. Is this a known bug? We can't re-install the app without going on-site, is there a way to refresh the status? Might sound like a dumb question but it's odd that it just won't refresh.
In the Device Info list, on the page for a device, I see two different entries for my different devices. Either it's "<unknown ssid>" or it's plain empty. What's the difference? Could it be that on one device wifi itself is disabled, and on the other one it's active but not connected? And if that's it, which is which?
(All devices are connected using SIM cards, btw.)
